This unusual earthwork tool, here fitted to a tilting rotating excavator head, is common for quickly smoothing stone beds used under WarmFörm type frost protected shallow foundations in Sweden. This particular photo is a driveway bed, but the same earthwork tools are used for fast prep of stone base beds for houses. So if you are putting in a stone base for your WarmFörm foundation ask your stone guy “do you have a tilt-rotator head on your machine”, and “why not”. Make sure he knows you don’t want to pay for more of his time because he’s not working with the best tool for the job.
Tilt-Rotator heads speed the installation of stone, and achieves a more level stone bed, which decreases the amount of hand raking during a WarmFörm installation. This is the best tool for the job, and you should be pressuring your sub-contractors to use the best, to cost you less, and give you the best job they can give.
